Catholic pontiff, Pope Francis has met with the
President of the Democratic Republic of Congo,
Joseph Kabila at the Vatican.
The two leaders discussed the challenges
posed by the current political situation in the
country and the recent clashes that occured in
the capital, Kinshasa.
Kinshasa was rocked by deadly violence after
the opposition called for protests against the
government for failure to fix an election date as
Kabila’s mandate expires in December.
The Vatican reiterated the need for different
political actors and civil society groups to
ensure that a peaceful dialogue is used to
achieve stability and peace in the country.
